Chennai: The Tambaram City Police have announced traffic diversions for heavy vehicles that will be in effect on April 26 and 27 within the Tambaram limits. These measures are being implemented to manage increased vehicular movement and to ensure smoother traffic flow across the city.
While the specific occasion for these diversions was not detailed in the announcement, such traffic management strategies are frequently employed in Chennai to mitigate congestion during periods of high activity. Previous instances of similar diversions have been observed during major festivals like Pongal and Deepavali, as well as during election periods when a significant number of people travel. Road repair and expansion projects also necessitate temporary rerouting of heavy vehicles.
According to past advisories from Chennai traffic authorities, heavy vehicles travelling on key routes are typically diverted to alternative pathways. For example, vehicles moving towards Chennai from areas like Chengalpattu might be rerouted via Kancheepuram and Sriperumbudur. Similarly, traffic originating from Singaperumal Koil has been redirected through Oragadam and Sriperumbudur in the past. Motorists coming from Puducherry, Cuddalore, and Nagapattinam have previously been advised to utilize the East Coast Road (ECR) and Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) to avoid potential congestion on main highways.
The implementation of these diversions by the Tambaram City Police aims to streamline traffic patterns, particularly for heavy goods vehicles, to prevent bottlenecks on major arterial roads. Commuters are advised to stay updated on the latest traffic announcements and plan their journeys accordingly to account for potential delays caused by these diversions.
