SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued an advisory urging the public to make full use of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) helpline, 112, for immediate assistance during any emergency situation. The initiative aims to streamline emergency response and ensure prompt help for citizens across the Union Territory.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the ERSS helpline 112 operates as an integrated 24/7 service designed to provide swift responses to a wide range of incidents. These include road accidents, law and order disturbances, medical emergencies, fire incidents, and distress calls, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups such as women and children.
According to police officials, the helpline system is staffed by professional call takers, including trained female personnel, who are equipped to assist and support individuals in distress. The system ensures that every call is handled with efficiency and empathy, providing a crucial point of contact for those in need.
The 112 helpline can be accessed through multiple channels. Citizens can dial 112 from any mobile or landline telephone. Additionally, alerts can be sent via SMS, or through the SOS/panic buttons available on the 112 India App on smartphones. An ERSS-based digital platform, accessible at jk.erss.in, also allows for reporting and tracking of emergencies.
To ensure a rapid response, swift response teams are deployed using GPS-enabled Emergency Response Vehicles. This technological integration allows for timely dispatch and arrival of help, minimizing delays in critical situations.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have requested the general public to extend their cooperation and ensure responsible utilization of this vital facility. They emphasized that misuse of the emergency helpline, including making false or prank calls, is a punishable offense under the law and could divert resources from genuine emergencies.
The police department has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and secure society for all residents. The success of the ERSS initiative relies heavily on the active participation and cooperation of citizens in this collective effort towards public safety.
