The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appealed to its residents to actively participate in the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2025-26′ by providing their valuable feedback. This annual nationwide survey, conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, evaluates cities on various parameters including waste segregation, collection, processing, sanitation facilities, and overall citizen satisfaction. The administration stressed that citizen feedback is a decisive factor in determining the city’s ranking in this prestigious survey.
Citizen Participation Crucial for City’s Ranking
Mayor Ravi Landge, in a public appeal, highlighted the importance of each individual fulfilling their civic responsibility by registering their feedback. He stated that this participation is essential for Pimpri-Chinchwad to achieve a top position in the Swachh Survekshan. The civic body is employing various media channels to raise awareness among residents about the significance of cleanliness and the necessity of their collective involvement in making the city cleaner.
Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi underscored the vital role of citizen feedback in fostering a clean and healthy urban environment. Additional Commissioner Kuldeep Jangam further emphasized that active participation from residents, in conjunction with the administration’s efforts, is indispensable for attaining an excellent rank. He added that each citizen’s feedback serves as a crucial foundation for the city’s progress, urging a large-scale response from the community.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pradip Thengal expressed confidence that Pimpri-Chinchwad will evolve into a cleaner, more beautiful, and healthier city through the sustained active participation of its residents. The administration has set up an online portal for residents to submit their feedback, aiming to streamline the process and encourage widespread engagement.
Swachh Survekshan: A National Initiative
The Swachh Survekshan is a flagship initiative of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Government of India to encourage cities to improve their sanitation and cleanliness standards. The survey evaluates cities based on a comprehensive set of criteria, with citizen feedback playing a significant role in the final scoring. In previous editions, Pimpri-Chinchwad has achieved notable success, securing high rankings nationally and within the state. For instance, in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, the city was declared the cleanest city in Maharashtra and ranked seventh nationally among million-plus cities. It also retained its certifications as a 7-Star Garbage-Free City and a Water Plus City.
The survey’s methodology often includes assessments of solid waste management systems, including source segregation, scientific processing of waste, and decentralized waste treatment across all wards. Door-to-door segregated collection, composting units, recycling plants, and biogas facilities are key components contributing to a city’s performance. Furthermore, the retention of Water Plus certification highlights the city’s commitment to 100% compliance with wastewater management, including the treatment and reuse of sewage water, protection of water bodies, and maintenance of open defecation-free zones.
The success of Pimpri-Chinchwad in previous Swachh Survekshan surveys has been attributed to the collaborative efforts of its residents, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, housing societies, and industries. These stakeholders have contributed through consistent waste segregation practices, reducing plastic usage, and promoting public hygiene. The administration’s continuous improvement in solid waste management, citizen engagement, sanitation infrastructure, and technological integration has been pivotal in achieving these accolades.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is actively implementing various cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns to ensure continued progress. These efforts include systematic household waste collection, effective waste management processes, and extensive campaigns on waste segregation, home composting, and the promotion of cloth bags for responsible waste disposal. The goal is to foster a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility throughout the city, aiming for an even higher ranking in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan survey.
