SEVILLE, Spain – A terrifying incident occurred at Seville’s Feria de Abril fairground when a ‘Steel Max’ slingshot ride experienced a catastrophic malfunction, resulting in four injuries, including two children. The accident happened on Friday evening around 8:20 p.m. local time.
According to reports, the slingshot ride, which launches a two-person capsule high into the air, suffered a snapped cable while two minors were onboard. The capsule reportedly slammed into the ride’s frame, leaving the children stranded approximately five meters above the ground.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene immediately. The two children were transported to Virgen de la Macarena hospital, while two other fairgoers who sustained injuries were treated at the site. Authorities confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening, though one of the children reportedly suffered a head injury and had no memory of the terrifying ordeal.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as the ride malfunctioned, with onlookers heard shouting in distress. Footage of the incident circulating online shows the capsule being launched and then swinging violently before hitting the structure.
The incident has prompted outrage among parents, with some reportedly considering legal action. Concerns have been raised about the ride’s manufacturer and their response to the incident.
Local Police have initiated an inspection of the ride’s documentation, and the National Police have taken charge of the investigation into the cause of the accident. The ‘Steel Max’ attraction is known for its extreme nature, launching passengers to significant heights at high speeds.
This incident is one of several involving similar rides reported globally, highlighting ongoing concerns about the safety of high-thrill amusement attractions.
