Two Killed in Firing Incident in Punjab’s Bhuma Village

Two individuals were fatally shot and a third was injured late Monday night when unidentified assailants opened fire in Bhuma village, located under the jurisdiction of the Sri Hargobindpur police station in Punjab’s Batala district.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deceased have been identified as Kashmir Singh and Jugraj Singh. Another individual, also named Jugraj Singh, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at a private hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mehtab Singh stated that the killings were not connected to inter-gang rivalries or extortion activities. He confirmed that multiple police teams have been constituted to meticulously investigate the sequence of events that led to the crime. The SSP expressed optimism that the accused would be apprehended soon, citing that investigators have already uncovered some significant clues.

According to initial reports, the victims were strolling through their agricultural fields when the attack occurred. An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Sri Hargobindpur police station regarding the incident.

A senior police official further disclosed that one of the deceased, Kashmir Singh, had a prior case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigators are reportedly exploring all possible motives and angles that could have led to the shooting. The police are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to gather further evidence.

The incident has cast a shadow over the rural community, prompting heightened security and an intensive investigation by local law enforcement. The authorities are committed to uncovering the perpetrators and bringing them to justice, while also ensuring the safety and security of the residents in the region.
