SRINAGAR: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a comprehensive advisory for candidates slated to appear for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026, scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026. The advisory details mandatory procedures and guidelines aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent examination process.
Information was available with The Chenab Times detailing that all candidates will be subjected to mandatory biometric verification, a process to be conducted after frisking and prior to entering the examination hall. This measure is intended to enhance security and prevent impersonation.
The NTA has proactively addressed potential candidate concerns regarding biometric authentication. It has clarified that any failure in the biometric identification process, whether due to technical glitches such as device malfunctions, poor fingerprint quality, connectivity issues with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), or medical conditions, will not prevent a candidate from appearing for the exam. In such circumstances, candidates will be permitted to proceed to the examination hall upon submission of a written undertaking in the prescribed format, which will be made available at all examination centres.
Further reassurance was provided that the biometric verification procedures are designed not to cause undue interruption to candidates once the examination is underway. The NEET UG 2026 exam is scheduled to commence at 2:00 PM and conclude at 5:00 PM. However, candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwD/PwBD) will have an extended duration, with their examination concluding at 6:00 PM.
Specific instructions regarding items permitted and dress code have also been issued. Candidates are allowed to carry transparent water bottles to the examination centre. Those who intend to wear religious attire, full-sleeved clothing, or woollen garments have been advised to arrive at the centre earlier than the stipulated time to allow for thorough frisking by the security personnel. In terms of footwear, the guidelines recommend candidates wear slippers or low-heeled sandals.
The registration figures for NEET (UG) 2026 indicate a significant participation, with a total of 22,79,743 candidates registered for the examination. This includes a substantial number of female candidates, accounting for 13,32,928 (58 per cent), and 9,46,815 male candidates (42 per cent).
To assist candidates with any queries or concerns, the NTA has provided dedicated helpline numbers: 011-40759000 and 011-69227700. Candidates can also reach out via email at neetug2026@nta.ac.in for further information or clarification regarding the examination guidelines and procedures.
The National Testing Agency has emphasized the importance of strict adherence to these guidelines by all candidates. Cooperation with the examination staff is urged to ensure the seamless and efficient conduct of the upcoming NEET UG 2026 examination across all centres.
