A 24-year-old man allegedly murdered his 28-year-old live-in partner before taking his own life in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, police confirmed on Sunday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the couple had been living together for two years. Their relationship reportedly deteriorated after the woman filed a police complaint against the man, accusing him of molestation.
According to police officials, the woman, identified as Radhika, was residing in a rented accommodation in Durgapuram Colony with Subhash Thakur, following her divorce from her husband. Circle Officer (Sadar) Preetam Pal Singh stated that a few days prior to the incident, Radhika had lodged a formal complaint against Thakur, alleging molestation and stalking.
Officials believe that Thakur, allegedly enraged by the police complaint, first strangled Radhika to death. Following the murder, he is believed to have died by suicide by hanging himself within the same premises.
The grim discovery was made on Saturday night when Radhika’s sister, Anita, attempted to contact her and received no response. Neighbours, noticing a body inside the room through a window, alerted the local police. Upon arrival, authorities found Radhika’s body lying on the bed. Thakur was discovered hanging from the ceiling.
Prima facie evidence suggests that Thakur committed the murder and subsequently ended his own life, police sources indicated. Investigations into the precise sequence of events and motives are ongoing.
