The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has approved a significant infrastructure upgrade for the crucial road dividing Sectors 51 and 52, paving the way for the city’s first waterlogging-free “model road.” This ambitious project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 9 crore, aims to transform the existing stretch into a world-class corridor through a comprehensive redesign rather than routine maintenance.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the tender process for the project has already commenced, with the selected contractor mandated to complete the construction within six months of the work being awarded. A senior GMDA engineer indicated that the road was prioritized following directives from the Chief Minister to bolster essential infrastructure within the city.
Groundwork is anticipated to commence in the coming weeks, contingent upon the finalization of the tender. The current condition of the road is reportedly poor, characterized by numerous broken patches and dust, which have been a persistent source of inconvenience for local residents. Commuters have also frequently experienced traffic congestion during peak hours and a recurring incidence of accidents attributed to the presence of potholes.
A central focus of the redevelopment plan is to definitively address the perennial issue of waterlogging. The project includes the installation of new drainage lines on both sides of the road to ensure efficient water flow, particularly during the monsoon season. Officials are confident that this intervention will permanently eradicate flooding on this particular stretch.
Further enhancements to the model road will include the construction of dedicated pedestrian footpaths, the development of a green belt for aesthetic improvement between the carriageways, and the installation of modern LED street lighting. These additions are intended to enhance visibility and safety during nighttime hours. The road will be constructed using high-quality materials engineered to withstand substantial traffic loads.
GMDA officials have stressed that the initiative represents more than a mere repair job; it is envisioned as a complete overhaul of the road infrastructure. The upgraded corridor is expected to substantially improve connectivity for residents of Wazirabad, Kanahi village, and numerous high-rise residential societies located in Sectors 51 and 52. The project’s completion is anticipated to bring much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters and residents who have endured deteriorating road conditions and recurrent waterlogging for an extended period.
Beyond alleviating traffic and waterlogging concerns, the model road is also projected to contribute to a reduction in dust pollution and a more streamlined traffic flow. This comprehensive upgrade aims to significantly improve the quality of life and daily commute for those who utilize this vital urban artery.
