The Tamil Nadu government has announced the operation of special bus services across the state to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during auspicious ‘Muhurtham’ days and coinciding weekends. These special services are intended to supplement the regular transport network and ensure convenient travel for a large number of commuters.
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will be deploying a significant number of additional buses from major termini in Chennai, including Kilambakkam and Koyambedu, to various destinations throughout Tamil Nadu. In anticipation of increased travel for wedding ceremonies and weekend getaways, these special services aim to ease the burden on the existing fleet and provide passengers with more travel options.
From the Kilambakkam bus terminus, a substantial number of special buses will operate to popular destinations such as Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur. Similar arrangements are being made from other key bus stations like Koyambedu, which will see special services heading towards Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur, and even Bengaluru.
The transport department has also planned for the deployment of special buses originating from other major cities like Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Erode, connecting them to various parts of the state. These services are designed to cater to both outbound and return journeys, ensuring that passengers can travel smoothly to and from their destinations during these busy periods. Information available with The Chenab Times indicates that advance bookings for these special services have already seen considerable numbers, reflecting the high demand.
The specific number of special buses deployed varies depending on the day and the specific route, with hundreds of additional services scheduled over the key dates. This proactive measure by the transport authorities is expected to enhance passenger experience and reduce potential congestion on regular routes. Commuters are often advised to book their tickets in advance to secure their seats, especially during peak travel times associated with auspicious occasions and long weekends.
