In a disturbing discovery, authorities in Uttar Pradesh have arrested a 72-year-old man for allegedly keeping the decomposed body of his 35-year-old daughter within their residence for nearly four months after her death.
The Chenab Times has learned that the incident came to light after local residents of Teli Mohalla, under the Sadar Bazar police station area in Meerut, alerted the police about a persistent and strong foul odour emanating from the house. This led to the formal arrest of Udaybhanu Biswas on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Priyanka, the deceased daughter, had passed away on December 1, 2025, succumbing to an illness. Her father, Udaybhanu Biswas, reportedly did not conduct the last rites and instead kept her body in a locked room of the house. Sources suggest he resided in the house with the body for an extended period, allegedly attempting to mask the decomposing smell with the use of perfumes.
The stark reality of the situation unfolded on April 10, when police, acting on the tip-off, recovered the largely skeletonized remains of Priyanka from the house. Following legal formalities, the decomposed body was dispatched for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and other relevant details.
Further inquiries revealed that Udaybhanu Biswas is a retired administrative officer from the education department and originally hails from West Bengal. In connection with the deeply unsettling circumstances surrounding the prolonged retention of his daughter’s body, Biswas has undergone a psychiatric evaluation at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Medical College. He was formally arrested subsequent to this evaluation.
