New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a detailed advisory for candidates preparing to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2026, outlining specific guidelines for dress code and items permitted inside examination centres across India and abroad.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the CUET-UG examinations are scheduled to commence on May 11 and will conclude on May 31. The examinations will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) format. The advisory aims to ensure a standardized and fair examination environment for all participants.

According to the official advisory issued on Thursday, candidates are permitted to carry transparent water bottles to the examination halls. This measure is intended to allow candidates to stay hydrated during the examination period without compromising security protocols.

The NTA has also stated that candidates will be allowed to wear articles or objects of faith. However, individuals choosing to wear such items must report to the examination centre well in advance. This early arrival will facilitate thorough frisking by examination staff to ensure compliance with security regulations.

Specifically addressing religious items, the advisory emphasized that religious threads, such as ‘kalava,’ are permissible. This clarification is expected to alleviate concerns for candidates who wish to adhere to their religious customs.

For clothing, the advisory recommends candidates opt for white light clothing. It further suggests that candidates may wear woollens if necessary, but like items of faith, this is also subject to reporting early for frisking. The aim is to prevent any potential use of clothing for unfair means while allowing for comfort in varying weather conditions.

Regarding footwear, candidates are advised that normal shoes, slippers, and footwear with low heels are preferred. This guideline is in line with standard examination centre protocols designed to maintain order and security.

The CUET-UG is a crucial examination for admission to undergraduate programs in various central, state, and other universities in India. The NTA conducts this examination annually to streamline the admission process for higher education institutions.

The advisory serves as a comprehensive guide for candidates, ensuring they are well-informed about the requirements before arriving at their designated examination centres. Adherence to these guidelines will help in a smooth and efficient conduct of the CUET-UG 2026 examinations.
