Two individuals were killed and at least five passengers sustained injuries when a speeding Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus overturned and fell into a roadside gorge on the Bidar-Zaheerabad road on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred when the bus, traveling from Hyderabad to Bidar, reportedly lost control after hitting a motorcycle.

The Chenab Times has learned that the two occupants of the motorcycle, identified as P. Arun, a 24-year-old mobile repair technician, and another individual, were killed instantly due to the impact. Several passengers on the bus also suffered injuries, with reports indicating that four of them are in critical condition.

Local residents and commuters were quick to respond, rushing to the aid of the passengers trapped inside the overturned bus. The injured were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention. Traffic on the highway experienced temporary disruptions as rescue operations and the removal of the damaged vehicle were carried out.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the bus may have been speeding, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the mishap, including potential driver negligence. The incident has reignited concerns about road safety and adherence to speed limits on inter-state highways frequently used by public transport and heavy vehicles.

This tragic accident underscores the persistent challenges in ensuring road safety across the region, particularly on busy routes connecting Telangana and Karnataka. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough inquiry to ascertain the precise cause of the collision and to implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
