A professor from Lucknow University has been taken into police custody following serious allegations of harassment and attempted question paper leaks leveled against him by a final-year BSc student. The student reportedly provided evidence to the university administration detailing the professor’s alleged inappropriate behavior and his attempts to solicit her for undue favors.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the professor, identified as Dr. Paramjit Singh, engaged in obscene conversations with the student and offered her inducements. An audio clip, purportedly of a conversation between the professor and the student, has surfaced, wherein the professor is heard repeatedly urging the student to meet him to receive question papers for upcoming examinations. He also addresses her as ‘Darling’ and offers financial support, stating, “Koi financial support chahiye, kuch chahiye, tumhare liye sab kuch open hai.”
The professor is further heard in the audio clip stating, “Kab aoge milne, maine dono paper out kar diye hain aapke…” The student, in the recording, can be heard attempting to decline his advances and offers on various pretexts, including having already covered the syllabus and needing to care for an ailing mother. However, the accused professor is persistent, saying, “Aapke exam jab honge, core wala aur elective wala, toh use pehle bata dena, maine dono paper out kar liye hain tumhare liye…Milne nai aaoge ek baar bhi?” He insists that she must come to meet him, responding to her attempts to say she would try with a firm, “Nai try nahi, aana padega.”
The Lucknow Police confirmed that the accused professor has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation. A case is being registered at the Hasanganj Police Station under relevant sections of the law, based on a written complaint filed by the Controller of Examinations of Lucknow University. Further legal proceedings are underway.
In response to the allegations, the Lucknow University administration has constituted a probe committee to investigate the matter internally. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mahanagar, stated that the professor’s interrogation is ongoing and that further legal action is being processed.
The incident has sparked concern within the academic community, highlighting the importance of safe and respectful campus environments. The university’s swift action in forming a probe committee and the police’s immediate response demonstrate a commitment to addressing such serious allegations.
