Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Sunday levelled criticism against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the handling of the reservation issue, citing concerns over the process and administrative delays.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Lone, in a post on the social media platform X, drew attention to photographs from a meeting between the Chief Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He commented on the perceived “optics” of the interaction, suggesting that public perception was a key consideration.

According to Lone, during the discussions with the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister reportedly raised concerns about delays in the clearance of a crucial reservation file. However, Lone stated that the Chief Minister was informed that the file had been dispatched from the Centre approximately three weeks prior. This, Lone suggested, pointed to a potential lapse in communication within the Chief Minister’s own office.

Lone further elaborated that the Union government had sought specific details concerning the methodology employed by the Sub-Committee in formulating its recommendations on reservation. He indicated that significant questions remained unanswered regarding the data and the analytical framework underpinning these recommendations.

The Peoples Conference chief recalled raising similar apprehensions previously within the Legislative Assembly. He asserted that there was a lack of demonstrable research or evidence to substantiate the recommendations made. Lone emphasized that decisions of such public importance should be grounded in verifiable data and a rigorous analytical process that can withstand scrutiny.

He characterized the administration’s approach to matters of public significance as notably casual. The statement underscored a perceived lack of diligence in addressing critical policy issues.
