Mumbai police have apprehended two individuals in Borivali in connection with a bomb-hurling incident that occurred outside an Ashram in Murshidabad, West Bengal. The arrests were made by the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai Crime Branch, who tracked the accused to the Borivali railway station. The incident reportedly took place on May 14, under the jurisdiction of Berhampore Police Station in Murshidabad.

Arrests Made After Accused Flee West Bengal

The accused, identified as Roky Khan, 24, a driver from Kandi Hotel Para, and Sahadat Sarkar, 35, a labourer from Gram Natun Pura, had allegedly fled West Bengal to evade arrest. Following their apprehension in Mumbai, the Crime Branch completed the necessary legal procedures and obtained a two-day transit remand to hand them over to the West Bengal Police. The case was initially registered based on a complaint filed by Pashupathinath Saha, a grocery shop owner from the Majiherpara Post Office area in Murshidabad district.

Background of the Incident

According to police officials, the incident dates back to May 13, when tensions escalated in the area following the declaration of West Bengal election results. The dispute reportedly began on May 12 after unidentified individuals allegedly tore down photographs displayed on an electric pole outside a Durga temple near the Ashram. The situation worsened the following night, May 13, when the accused and their associates allegedly hurled socket bombs in an open field in front of the Ashram, causing panic among residents.

The complainant, Pashupathinath Saha, alleged that on the morning of May 14, some of the accused arrived on motorcycles outside his grocery shop and threatened him with further bomb attacks if he informed the police. An FIR was registered on May 15, and investigators launched a search operation. During their probe, police discovered that the accused had vacated their homes and fled West Bengal, boarding the Gitanjali Express to Mumbai to avoid capture. This information was then shared with the Mumbai Crime Branch, leading to the arrests.

Several other accused remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing to apprehend them. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions and potential fallout in the region following the election results.
