Jammu Woman Hospitalised With Severe Burns After Self-Immolation Bid

JAMMU, May 22: A 22-year-old woman in Jammu has been hospitalised with approximately 80 percent burn injuries after she allegedly set herself on fire near the Tawi bridge area on Thursday.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the incident occurred when the woman, in a state of distress, poured an inflammable substance on herself and ignited it. Passersby quickly intervened, doused the flames, and facilitated her admission to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that a strained personal relationship was the primary factor leading to the drastic act. A senior police official stated that the woman’s statement was recorded in the hospital on Thursday night in the presence of a magistrate. She reportedly informed investigators that she had been unable to communicate with her boyfriend for two to three days as he was not responding to her calls. According to her statement, she acted out of anger and did not intend to end her life.

Authorities have registered a case concerning the incident and have commenced further investigations to ascertain all the facts. The woman continues to receive medical care for her severe injuries.
