SRINAGAR: Security forces have escalated search operations and strengthened security cordons in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir following a brief encounter with suspected militants in the Dorimal–Gambhir Moghla belt on Saturday. The intensified efforts are aimed at flushing out militants believed to be hiding in the region’s forested terrain.

The Chenab Times has learned that additional troops have been deployed as part of a coordinated operation involving joint teams. These teams are conducting extensive searches in the challenging landscape, acting on intelligence that suggested the presence of two to three militants in the vicinity. The operation was initiated after contact was established during an intelligence-based pursuit, which resulted in a short exchange of fire. The suspected militants reportedly managed to evade capture, leading to the continuation of the combing operations.

The encounter occurred during a pre-planned operation based on specific intelligence inputs. Sources within the security establishment indicated that the militants, aware of the approaching forces, engaged briefly before disappearing into the dense forest cover. This prompted the immediate reinforcement of personnel and an expansion of the search area to prevent their escape and potential regrouping. The focus remains on thoroughly sweeping the area to ensure no militants remain concealed.

In a separate but related development, security forces also launched a search operation in the Gudha Brahmana area of Akhnoor, located in the Jammu district. This action was prompted by reports of suspicious movement observed in the locality. While details of the Akhnoor operation are still emerging, it underscores the heightened security posture across various parts of the Jammu region as authorities work to maintain law and order.

The Rajouri encounter highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in counter-militancy operations, particularly in areas with difficult terrain that can be exploited by armed groups. The deployment of additional troops and the meticulous nature of the search operations demonstrate the commitment to neutralizing any remaining threats. Officials have stressed the importance of continued vigilance and intelligence gathering to preempt and respond effectively to such incidents.

These operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure the security and stability of the region. The coordination between different security agencies, including the army and police, has been crucial in executing these complex operations. The emphasis on intelligence-led operations aims to minimize collateral damage and ensure the safety of civilians while pursuing militants.
