A father in Delhi has been apprehended for allegedly killing his 10-month-old daughter and subsequently fabricating a kidnapping story to mislead the authorities. The accused, identified as Deepak, reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he was unable to bear the financial strain of raising a second girl child.
Infant’s Body Found in Septic Tank
The tragic incident unfolded in Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area. According to police reports, Deepak strangled his infant daughter and disposed of her body in the septic tank of his residence. The body was later recovered after Deepak broke down during interrogation and admitted to the murder.
The case initially came to light when Deepak reported his daughter missing on May 24, claiming she had disappeared from the house while he had stepped out to purchase milk and biscuits. A significant search operation was launched by the police, involving multiple teams and the scanning of CCTV footage from the vicinity to locate the infant and identify potential suspects.
Inconsistencies in Father’s Account
During the investigation, law enforcement officials observed several inconsistencies in Deepak’s account of the events. Despite his claims, CCTV footage from the area failed to corroborate his statement that he had left the house when the child went missing. Investigators also noted that Deepak’s wife and elder daughter were found unconscious inside the house, raising further suspicion.
The police intensified their questioning of Deepak, leading to his confession. He allegedly admitted to strangling his infant daughter and hiding her body in the septic tank. The discovery of the child’s body from the tank and the subsequent confession have shifted the case from a missing person investigation to a murder inquiry.
This incident highlights a deeply disturbing societal issue, where the financial burden of raising children, particularly girls, can lead to extreme and tragic consequences. Authorities are investigating the matter further to ascertain all details surrounding the crime.
