SRINAGAR: Authorities in Srinagar have vehemently refuted circulating social media claims alleging the desecration of Holy Quran copies within the city. Police issued a strong advisory on Monday, labelling the rumours as entirely false and baseless, asserting that no such incident has occurred on the ground.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the police have termed the online narratives as unverified and misleading. Officials warned that the dissemination of such misinformation could potentially incite unnecessary panic, disrupt public order, and damage the fabric of communal harmony within the region.
The Srinagar police have appealed to all media outlets, social media users, and the general public to exercise a heightened sense of responsibility and refrain from sharing or forwarding any unverified content. Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, authorities cautioned that stringent legal actions would be initiated against any individuals or groups found complicating themselves in the spread of such fabricated news or misinformation, in accordance with relevant legal statutes.
The police further solicited public cooperation to collectively uphold peace, maintain order, and preserve communal harmony across Srinagar district. This proactive clarification aims to counter divisive propaganda and ensure a stable environment for all residents.
