Jammu and Kashmir MLA Pledges Legal Aid in Budgam Rape and Murder Case

Advocate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), has strongly condemned the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Budgam, calling the incident a “horrifying crime” and a “stain on humanity.” He has pledged to personally assist the victim’s family in their legal pursuit of justice.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the MLA, expressing deep shock over the incident in Galwanpora, stated that those responsible must face exemplary punishment. He emphasized the profound grief and trauma endured by the bereaved family, suggesting that swift justice is the only solace that can be offered.

Highlighting his professional background as an Advocate, Mehdi stated that he would provide full legal assistance to ensure the case is prosecuted effectively and that the accused are held accountable. “As an Advocate, a citizen and people’s representative from Budgam, I consider it my moral and legal responsibility to stand with the family in this difficult time. I will personally extend every possible legal assistance and support to ensure justice is delivered and no guilty person escapes accountability,” he said.

The MLA called for a prompt, transparent, and time-bound inquiry into the matter, urging authorities to take decisive action against the perpetrators. He also appealed to the public to show solidarity with the victim’s family and collectively condemn such heinous acts.

The brutal rape and murder of the 12-year-old girl in Galwanpora village, located in the Budgam district, has ignited widespread outrage and sorrow across Kashmir. The young victim had been reported missing on May 23, 2026, and her body was discovered the following morning, approximately 200 metres from her residence. Following the discovery, the police established a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT subsequently arrested a local suspect, identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, who has reportedly confessed to the crime.

The incident has prompted widespread condemnation from various quarters, with calls for stringent legal action and measures to prevent such crimes in the future. The focus now shifts to the legal proceedings as the victim’s family, with the support of MLA Mehdi, seeks justice for the horrific crime.
