Tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist Peter Thiel has purchased a luxury mansion in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for approximately $12 million. The property, located in the exclusive Barrio Parque neighborhood, spans around 1,600 square meters (17,200 square feet) and was originally designed by Argentine architect Alejandro Bustillo.

The mansion features formal living and dining areas, multiple bedrooms, office space, a wine cellar, and a terrace. Reports indicate the interior has been renovated while preserving the original structure. Barrio Parque is known as one of the city’s most affluent residential areas, home to embassies and residences of public figures.

Thiel’s acquisition adds to his global real estate portfolio, which includes properties in New Zealand. His recent time spent in Argentina has included meetings with government officials, including President Javier Milei. Thiel has expressed interest in Argentina and has been described as an admirer of Milei’s libertarian economic policies.

The purchase is considered one of the highest residential transactions in the area, influenced by location and limited availability. The deal was reportedly handled by boutique real estate firm JdC Propiedades. Some reports suggest the transaction was completed quickly, with one source indicating it was finalized in just two hours, though other real estate sources have indicated a potentially lower market value for the property.

Thiel’s presence in Argentina has sparked discussions about potential broader investment considerations and technology sector opportunities. Associates of Thiel have reportedly been scouting for additional properties in the country, including in Patagonia. His company, Palantir Technologies, is known for its data analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities and is already active in Latin America, with potential for expansion.

The billionaire’s visit has also coincided with discussions about Argentina’s economic policies and its position in the global tech landscape. Thiel’s interest in the country is seen by some as aligning with President Milei’s efforts to attract foreign investment and foster a libertarian economic environment.

Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and early investor in Facebook, has a significant net worth and is known for his involvement in technology and venture capital. His activities in Argentina are being closely watched for potential implications on both the country’s real estate market and its burgeoning tech sector.
