SRINAGAR: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the deadline for candidates of NEET-UG 2026 to submit their bank account details for examination fee refunds until June 22. The decision comes after the cancellation of the national medical entrance examination due to allegations of a question paper leak.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the NTA had initially set May 26 as the last date for candidates to provide their banking information for the refund process. This facility was made available on the NEET (UG)-2026 registration portal following the exam’s cancellation on May 12 and the announcement of a re-test scheduled for June 21. The agency had previously clarified that no additional fee would be levied for the rescheduled examination, and all fees paid by candidates would be reimbursed.
The NTA announced the extension via its official X handle, noting that approximately 13 lakh candidates have already updated their bank details. The extended deadline aims to accommodate those who have yet to complete the necessary submission process. The agency urged candidates to log in to the official registration portal using their credentials and navigate to the refund link to enter their bank account details. For enhanced accuracy, candidates were also advised to upload a cancelled cheque if available, although this was not explicitly mandatory.
Once submitted, the bank details provided by candidates will be considered final, and no further modifications will be permitted. This measure ensures the integrity of the refund process and avoids potential complications arising from last-minute changes.
The NEET-UG 2026 examination had seen a registration of nearly 23 lakh candidates across the country. The ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the examination is being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a highly competitive examination conducted for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in colleges across India. The examination process has faced scrutiny in recent years, leading to heightened measures by authorities to ensure transparency and fairness.
The NTA, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is responsible for conducting various entrance examinations. Its mandate includes ensuring standardized testing procedures and upholding the credibility of national-level examinations.
The extension of the deadline is expected to provide relief to a significant number of candidates who might have faced difficulties in submitting their details within the original timeframe. The agency’s proactive approach in extending the deadline reflects its commitment to facilitating the refund process for all eligible candidates affected by the examination cancellation.
The resolution of the refund process is a critical step for candidates, many of whom have invested considerable resources in preparing for the examination. The NTA’s continued communication and provision of extended timelines are intended to streamline this administrative aspect of the examination’s aftermath.
