Srinagar, June 01: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vidhi Kumar Birdi, currently serving as Inspector General (IG) of Police in Kashmir, to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on deputation.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that an office memorandum issued by the MHA on June 1, 2026, detailed the appointment of Birdi, a 2003-batch IPS officer belonging to the AGMUT cadre, as Inspector General in the CRPF. The appointment fills an existing vacancy and has received approval from the competent authority.
The order further specified that Birdi will serve at Level-14 in the pay matrix and has been directed to commence his new assignment at the Centre. The MHA has formally requested the authorities concerned to relieve him immediately to facilitate his transition to the new posting.
Birdi has held several significant policing roles throughout his career. His current tenure as IGP Kashmir zone has seen him engaged in various operational and administrative capacities within the region’s security apparatus. The move signifies a significant shift in his career, bringing his experience to a national-level paramilitary force.
The deputation period and specific terms and conditions will be in accordance with the standard guidelines for central deputation appointments. The Ministry’s directive for immediate relieving underscores the urgency with which the CRPF requires experienced leadership in its ranks. Birdi’s appointment is expected to bolster the operational capabilities and strategic planning of the CRPF in its mandated roles across the country.
