Himachal Pradesh: BJP Secures Dominant Majority in Sirmaur Zila Parishad Polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained a commanding majority in the Sirmaur zila parishad elections in Himachal Pradesh, positioning itself to lead the district body for another term. The party secured a significant number of seats declared so far, consolidating its electoral performance in the region.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that out of the 17 zila parishad seats, results for 13 have been declared. BJP-backed candidates have won 11 of these seats, while candidates supported by the Indian National Congress have secured two seats. The counting for the remaining four seats in the Paonta Sahib Assembly constituency was ongoing and was expected to conclude late in the night.

Several BJP candidates registered notable victories. In Nohradhar, BJP’s Hans Raj won by a margin of 4,892 votes. Ankita, contesting from Dana Ghato, secured a win with a margin of 3,222 votes. Sunita Pojta, who contested from Rast, emerged victorious by 2,411 votes, and Indu Bala won the Shillai seat by a margin of 774 votes.

Further victories for the BJP were reported from Tatiyana, where Balbir Pundir won with a margin of 3,126 votes. Ankita Sharma clinched the Bankala seat by 261 votes, Promila won from Trilokpur by 1,090 votes, and Shivani secured victory from Dadahu with a margin of 1,609 votes. Baldev Bhandari won the Sarahan ward by 776 votes, Lekh Raj from Lana Bhalta by 754 votes, and Saroj Bala from Neri Kotli by 460 votes.

The Congress party managed to win two seats. Rittu Bala won the Karganu ward with a margin of 336 votes, and Khattari Singh secured victory from the Sataun ward by a significant margin of 2,893 votes. The overall results have garnered political attention, particularly in light of the reverses faced by the Congress in areas closely associated with senior party leadership.

A notable outcome of the polls was the clean sweep achieved by BJP-backed candidates in Sri Renuka Ji, which is the home segment of the Congress state president, Vinay Kumar. This indicates a significant shift in electoral support or a strong performance by the BJP in areas traditionally seen as Congress strongholds.

The zila parishad elections are crucial for local governance and development in Himachal Pradesh, with elected representatives playing a key role in implementing state and central government schemes at the grassroots level. The BJP’s performance suggests a continued electoral momentum in the Sirmaur district, which will enable them to control the district council and influence local policy decisions for the upcoming term.

The election results are expected to set the tone for future political contests in the state, with both major parties assessing their strategies and voter outreach based on these outcomes. The final tally from the Paonta Sahib constituency was anticipated to further solidify the BJP’s overall majority or make minor adjustments to the balance of power within the zila parishad. The comprehensive results will provide a clearer picture of the political landscape in Sirmaur district.
