SRINAGAR: The initial contingent of Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir has arrived back in Srinagar, signalling the commencement of the return journey for this year’s pilgrimage. The repatriation process began with a flight carrying 144 individuals who had journeyed to Saudi Arabia.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the flight landed at Srinagar International Airport in the afternoon, where the returning pilgrims were warmly received. Among those present to greet the pilgrims were the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and other senior officials. This marks the beginning of the outbound phase for pilgrims returning from their sacred journey.

The return operations for pilgrims hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are scheduled to continue until June 16. Officials confirmed that this year, a total of 4,641 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir undertook the Hajj pilgrimage. This figure comprises 2,583 male pilgrims and 2,058 female pilgrims, reflecting the significant participation from the region in this annual religious observance.

The successful completion of the Hajj is a deeply significant event for many individuals and communities in Jammu and Kashmir. The return of pilgrims is often met with considerable anticipation and celebration, as families and friends reunite after the spiritual journey. The logistical arrangements for the return flights are managed by government agencies to ensure the safety and comfort of all pilgrims as they travel back to their homes.

The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all Muslims who are able. The pilgrimage involves a series of rituals performed in and around Mecca, Saudi Arabia. For pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir, the journey involves extensive travel and adherence to strict schedules, making the return phase a welcome culmination of their spiritual endeavor. The presence of the Chief Minister at the airport underscores the importance placed on facilitating the pilgrimage for the region’s residents.

The figures provided by officials indicate a substantial number of participants from Jammu and Kashmir this year. The breakdown between male and female pilgrims highlights the widespread engagement across genders. The smooth execution of both the outbound and inbound phases of the pilgrimage is crucial for the well-being of the pilgrims and relies on coordinated efforts from various administrative and aviation bodies. The ongoing return operations are expected to conclude by mid-June, ensuring all pilgrims complete their journey back home.
