The inaugural edition of the PTF India Open International Taekwondo Championships concluded in Srinagar on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the development of professional taekwondo in India. Over 400 athletes from multiple states and six countries competed in the four-day event held at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the championship, organised by the Professional Taekwondo Federation India under the Professional Taekwondo Federation, brought together participants from across the country and abroad in a display of skill and sportsmanship.
The closing ceremony featured Grandmaster Rick W. Shin, President of the Professional Taekwondo Federation, as the chief guest. Dr. Selma Li, President of CARES, attended as the guest of honour. Other dignitaries included Grandmaster Kevin Woon, Tournament Director, Master Lee Wan Young, Referee Chairman, and Grandmaster Atul Pangotra, President of PTF India.
Grandmaster Rick W. Shin congratulated athletes, coaches, and organisers for the successful inaugural event. He highlighted the potential for India to become a major player in international professional taekwondo. Dr. Selma Li praised the participants for their dedication and noted the role of such events in fostering healthy lifestyles and global friendship.
Grandmaster Atul Pangotra thanked the Professional Taekwondo Federation, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, sponsors, officials, and volunteers for their support. He described the event as laying a strong foundation for future international taekwondo competitions in the country.
Jammu and Kashmir emerged as the overall champions, followed by Jharkhand in second place and Ladakh in third. The contingent from Odisha received special recognition for their active participation and sporting spirit. Medals, trophies, and certificates were awarded to winners across various categories during the closing ceremony.
Organisers also honoured referees, volunteers, technical officials, and supporting partners for their contributions. The event was organised in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, My Youth My Pride Initiative, and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, served as the venue for this landmark sports gathering. The Union Territory, located in northern India and known for its scenic landscapes and rich cultural heritage, provided an inspiring backdrop for the international competition.
The championship successfully promoted values of discipline, excellence, youth empowerment, and healthy living. It offered athletes an international platform to showcase their talent and gain valuable competitive experience.
