GANDERBAL, June 04: Traffic authorities in Kashmir have issued a comprehensive advisory detailing road closures and diversions in Ganderbal district for a major Padyatra, or walkathon, scheduled for June 5. The event, part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign), will be led by the Lieutenant Governor and aims to raise awareness against drug abuse.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that vehicular movement will be significantly impacted on several key routes within the district. Specifically, the roads connecting Pandach Crossing to Wayil and Manigam Crossing, Beehama Chowk to Barsoo Crossing, and T-Chowk to Gadoora will be closed to traffic from 4:00 AM to 3:00 PM to facilitate the smooth conduct of the awareness program.

The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir has outlined alternative routes and diversion plans to mitigate inconvenience for commuters. Vehicles intending to travel towards Srinagar from areas such as Ladakh, Sonamarg, and Kangan will be rerouted at Wayil–Manigam Crossing. These vehicles will be directed via Shadipora and Shalteng, with the same diversion applicable for traffic moving in the opposite direction, from Srinagar towards these regions.

For commuters traveling from Gutlibagh towards Srinagar, a similar diversionary route has been established. They will also be guided via Wayil–Manigam Crossing, proceeding through Shadipora and Shalteng. Additionally, traffic originating from Lar and Tulmulla areas heading towards Srinagar will be accommodated through Dangarpora, Barsoo Crossing, Shadipora, and Shalteng before reaching their destination.

Motorists and the general public have been strongly advised by officials to avoid unnecessary travel through Ganderbal town during the stipulated hours. Adherence to the announced diversion plans is crucial for ensuring seamless traffic flow and maintaining public safety throughout the duration of the Padyatra. The event underscores the administration’s commitment to combating the drug menace across the region.
