Sukhvinder Kaur, a 22-year-old graduate from Naglahar village in Nagabari Gram Panchayat, has successfully entered grassroots politics by winning the Block Development Committee (BDC) election in the Nurpur development block of Himachal Pradesh.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Kaur secured 567 votes, emerging victorious over four other candidates. Her victory marks her as one of the youngest individuals to win a BDC election in the Nurpur block.
Kaur stated that despite having opportunities for a professional career, she chose public life due to her strong interest in rural development. She expressed the belief that active participation in local governance is the most effective means to contribute to the welfare of villages.
Her declared priorities include improving water supply, enhancing road connectivity, and championing environmental conservation efforts. Kaur conveyed her gratitude to the electorate for their trust and pledged to serve with honesty, dedication, and transparency to realize their aspirations.
She advocated for increased youth participation in local governance, encouraging young people to engage with the democratic system to foster positive change and serve society. Among the specific development projects Kaur intends to pursue are the installation of a borewell, upgrades to road infrastructure, the construction of a proper pathway to the crematorium, and the erection of a boundary wall around the village pond.
Kaur reaffirmed her dedication to strengthening rural infrastructure and making meaningful contributions to the overall development of her constituency.
