Vietnam’s Green SM Limo, an all-electric taxi service backed by Vingroup, has officially launched its operations in India, commencing in the Delhi-NCR region. The debut, which took place on June 5, 2026, marks India as the fifth international market for the company, following its presence in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
The Green SM Limo service aims to rival established players such as Ola and Uber in India’s competitive ride-hailing market. However, it differentiates itself with a company-controlled fleet model, utilizing exclusively VinFast electric vehicles. This approach contrasts with traditional aggregators that rely on vehicles owned by individual drivers from various manufacturers.
Fleet Operations and Vehicle Deployment
Initially, Green SM Limo will deploy the VinFast Limo Green, a seven-seater electric MPV developed for commercial passenger transport. This model is a fleet-focused derivative of the Vinfast VF MPV 7. The company plans to scale its fleet significantly, aiming to deploy thousands of electric vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region, with ambitions to reach up to 10,000 vehicles in the NCR alone.
The fleet-operated model allows Green SM to maintain tighter control over vehicle quality, maintenance, driver training, charging schedules, and overall customer experience. This integrated approach is intended to ensure a standardized and high-quality service across its operations.
Service Features and Pricing
Customers can book Green SM Limo rides through a dedicated mobile application available on both Android and iOS platforms, by calling a company hotline, or by hailing vehicles directly in operating zones. To attract early adopters, the company is offering a promotional discount of 50 percent, up to Rs 250, on rides booked via the app from June 5 to June 11, 2026.
While specific long-term pricing details are still emerging, initial reports suggest fares could be around Rs 8 per kilometer. Notably, Green SM has indicated it will not implement surge pricing or time-based charges during peak hours, a move designed to offer more predictable fares for passengers.
Safety and Driver Welfare
Each Green SM Limo vehicle is equipped with the company’s ‘Secure-to-Safe’ system, integrating interior and exterior cameras, AI-supported monitoring technology, and emergency assistance buttons for both drivers and passengers. Drivers undergo specialized training focused on electric vehicle operation, road safety, and customer service standards.
The company is also focusing on driver welfare, with reports suggesting potential monthly earnings between Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000, depending on performance and revenue generated. This initiative aims to attract and retain drivers in the competitive gig economy.
Strategic Expansion and Market Impact
The launch in Delhi-NCR is the first phase of Green SM’s expansion into India, with plans to gradually extend operations to other major metropolitan cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad. By introducing a fully electric taxi service with a managed fleet, Green SM aims to promote EV adoption and offer a sustainable urban transportation solution.
VinFast’s involvement in Green SM serves a dual purpose: establishing a new mobility service and acting as a direct sales tool for its electric vehicles, allowing potential customers to experience the vehicles firsthand in a real-world setting.
