In a significant development for grassroots politics in Himachal Pradesh, 24-year-old Vibhu Pathania has been elected as the Pradhan of Gagwal Gram Panchayat in the Indora Development Block of Kangra district. Pathania, a resident of Thapkor village, secured victory in a three-way contest, marking her entry into public service despite holding strong academic qualifications.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Pathania’s academic background includes a BSc and MSc in Chemistry from MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, along with a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree. Choosing public service over potential career opportunities in her field, she has embarked on a journey of rural development and community engagement.
Pathania has articulated a comprehensive development agenda for her five-year term. Her immediate priorities include enhancing basic infrastructure and improving public amenities within the panchayat. She also plans to address social issues by initiating anti-drug awareness campaigns, promoting environmental conservation, and implementing effective waste management strategies, including tackling plastic waste.
“Rural sanitation and ensuring an adequate drinking water supply will also be among my key development goals,” Pathania stated, emphasizing the importance of fundamental services for the well-being of the community.
Expressing her gratitude to the electorate, Vibhu Pathania pledged to serve the people of Gagwal Panchayat with dedication, sincerity, and hard work. She highlighted the pivotal role of active participation in grassroots governance as a potent mechanism for effecting positive change in rural areas.
Pathania attributed her inspiration to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development and public service, which encouraged her to take up a leadership role. She also acknowledged the guidance and support received from her elder brother, Rahul Pathania, who previously served as a zila parishad member from the Damtal ward in Indora.
Her election is being interpreted as a positive trend indicating a growing inclination among the youth, particularly educated individuals, to engage in local governance and contribute directly to the welfare and development of rural communities. This trend suggests a fresh perspective and a commitment to community-driven progress at the local level.
The Gagwal Gram Panchayat, situated in the Kangra district, will now be steered by Pathania’s leadership. Her focus on infrastructure, social issues, and environmental concerns aims to address the multifaceted needs of the panchayat. The election outcome reflects a local mandate for new leadership with a vision for inclusive growth and community empowerment. The path ahead for Pathania involves translating her ambitious agenda into tangible outcomes for the residents of Gagwal Panchayat.
