Himachal Pradesh: Two Arrested in Shimla for Assaulting UP Tailor, Vandalizing Shop

Two individuals have been arrested in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, for allegedly assaulting a tailor from Uttar Pradesh and vandalizing his shop in the Sanjauli area. Police stated on Sunday that the assault occurred after the perpetrators mistakenly identified the tailor as a man accused of misconduct with a minor girl.

The Chenab Times has learned that the accused in the minor’s case had already been apprehended, and the tailor, Azeem Mirza, had no connection to the alleged misconduct. An FIR was registered at the Sanjauli police station on Saturday following a complaint filed by Mirza, a resident of Uttar Pradesh who operates a tailor shop in the vicinity.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Madan Thakur, aged 43, from Devghodi village in Shimla district, and Vijay Sharma, aged 47, a resident of Sanjauli. According to Mirza’s complaint submitted to the police, the two accused, accompanied by a woman, entered his shop on Saturday. They reportedly questioned him about the case involving the minor girl. When the girl was asked to identify the tailor and failed to recognize him, the accused allegedly proceeded to assault Mirza.

Mirza’s complaint further detailed that the accused also damaged the wiring of a CCTV camera installed within his shop. He claimed that he and a colleague were then paraded through the market area, subjected to assault, and faced chants against them.

In response to the complaint, police initiated a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 333, 115(2), 351(2), 191(2), 190, 324(4), 196(1), and 304. An investigation into the incident was subsequently launched, leading to the arrest of the two accused.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh, confirmed that the individual accused of misconduct with the minor had already been taken into custody. He reiterated that Mirza and his colleague were not connected to the alleged offense against the minor, clarifying the mistaken identity that led to the assault and property damage.
