Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Sunday that the crucial Dhalli-Narkanda-Rampur road will be transformed into a four-lane highway. This significant infrastructure upgrade aims to enhance connectivity and provide a substantial boost to the tourism sector in the state.

Key Infrastructure Development in Shimla Hills

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the survey for this ambitious project has already been completed, paving the way for its commencement. The Chief Minister, speaking after offering prayers at the Hatu Mata Temple in Narkanda, emphasized that the upgrade would include the construction of tunnels. This measure is intended to mitigate the risks associated with landslides, a common hazard in the region, thereby ensuring safer and more reliable travel for commuters and tourists.

In addition to the road enhancement, Sukhu stated that the state government is actively pursuing the development of the Hatu Mata Ropeway. This project, proposed under the aegis of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), is envisioned to further bolster tourism infrastructure and accessibility to the popular pilgrimage site.

While acknowledging that the ropeway project might take three to four years to materialize, the Chief Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to its prioritized implementation. He also mentioned that funds have been allocated for the improvement of the Hatu Mata road itself, with a specific directive to ensure that the upgrade minimizes tree felling while simultaneously enhancing facilities for the devotees visiting the shrine.

During his visit to Narkanda, Chief Minister Sukhu announced a grant of ₹50 lakh for the Narkanda Nagar Panchayat. This financial allocation comes in the wake of the local urban body elections, where the Nagar Panchayat was elected unopposed.

The newly elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj institutions extended a warm welcome to the Chief Minister and felicitated him. As part of the state’s environmental conservation initiatives, Sukhu also planted a sapling in Narkanda.

Promoting Religious Tourism and Dev Culture

Addressing mediapersons, Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s global recognition for its rich ‘Dev Culture,’ underscoring the profound faith the people of the state hold in their local deities. He reiterated the government’s concerted efforts to promote religious tourism across Himachal Pradesh, a state renowned for housing numerous revered temples and significant pilgrimage destinations.

The announcement of the four-lane highway project signifies a major step towards modernizing the road infrastructure in the Shimla district, connecting important towns and tourist spots. The Dhalli-Narkanda-Rampur route is a vital artery, serving both local populations and a significant influx of tourists who visit the region for its natural beauty and religious significance.

The inclusion of tunnel construction is a critical aspect of the project, reflecting a proactive approach to addressing the geological challenges posed by the mountainous terrain. Landslides have historically caused disruptions and posed safety risks, and the proposed tunnels are expected to provide a more stable and secure passage, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

The Hatu Mata Temple is a popular pilgrimage site, attracting devotees from across the region. The proposed ropeway, once completed, is expected to significantly improve access to the temple, making the journey more convenient and potentially reducing the environmental impact associated with vehicular traffic on the approach roads. The commitment to enhancing the Hatu Mata road while being mindful of environmental concerns, such as tree felling, indicates a balanced approach to development.

The grant to the Narkanda Nagar Panchayat demonstrates the government’s focus on strengthening local governance and supporting the development of urban local bodies. The unopposed election to the Panchayat further signifies a potential for unified local administration and development efforts.

The Chief Minister’s emphasis on promoting religious tourism aligns with the state’s cultural heritage and its potential to attract a diverse range of visitors. By developing infrastructure and improving accessibility to religious sites, the Himachal Pradesh government aims to leverage its cultural assets for economic growth and community development.

Present on the occasion were MLA Kuldeep Rathore, Dehra MLA and Chief Minister’s wife Kamlesh Thakur, along with other dignitaries, underscoring the importance of the events and announcements made during the Chief Minister’s visit to Narkanda.
