A remarkable incident unfolded in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district where a monkey was observed carrying a stray puppy up a tree, an event captured in a widely circulated video.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the unusual encounter took place in the Rewalsar area of Mandi. Locals witnessed a monkey pick up a small puppy from the roadside and ascend a tree, carrying the canine approximately 20 feet off the ground. The gathering crowd below expressed concern for the puppy’s safety, fearing it might be dropped.
Contrary to initial fears, the monkey did not harm the puppy. Instead, it held the young animal in a manner that witnesses described as protective, reminiscent of a mother nurturing its offspring. The monkey remained perched in the tree for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before descending and gently placing the puppy back on the ground, leaving it unharmed.
Some onlookers speculated that the monkey might have been a female exhibiting maternal instincts, which could have influenced its behaviour towards the puppy. The authenticity of the viral video could not be independently verified by The Tribune.
