KUSHINAGAR, Uttar Pradesh – A farmer has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district on suspicion of honour killing after allegedly beating his two teenage daughters to death. The incident, which occurred in Pipraghat village, also involved the participation of the accused’s minor sons, police confirmed.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the horrific event unfolded on Monday evening when the accused, identified as Ram Prasad Mallah, reportedly confined his daughters, aged 18 and 20, in a room. Assisted by his two sons, aged 12 and 14, Mallah is alleged to have brutally assaulted the sisters with sticks and wooden rods until they succumbed to their injuries.
The motive behind the alleged murders appears to stem from the father’s disapproval of his daughters’ relationships with local youths. Information available with The Chenab Times indicates that the sisters had previously eloped with their partners last year but returned home approximately six months ago after interventions from family and villagers, including a village council meeting. Despite their return, tensions reportedly persisted within the household, with the father allegedly expressing strong opposition to the relationships and engaging in frequent disputes with his daughters.
The crime came to light on Monday night when a village watchman alerted the authorities. Police teams arrived at the scene to find the bodies of the two sisters inside the house. The two minor sons were detained for questioning, while Mallah fled the village immediately after the incident. He has since been arrested.
Superintendent of Police, Kushinagar, Keshav Kumar, stated that preliminary findings suggest the father believed his daughters’ actions had tarnished the family’s reputation. “Preliminary findings suggest that resentment had been building for months before culminating in the fatal assault,” Kumar said. A murder case has been registered against Ram Prasad Mallah and his two sons based on a complaint filed by the village watchman. The case prima facie appears to be an honour killing, although all angles are being examined.
This incident is not the first of its kind in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting ongoing concerns surrounding honour killings in the state. In May 2026, a similar case emerged from Kushinagar where a father was arrested for allegedly killing his 15-year-old daughter over her friendship with a boy from another community. In that instance, the victim’s body was reportedly dismembered and transported via train, leading to a broader investigation into patriarchal violence and interfaith relationships in India.
The forensic team collected evidence from the crime scene, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Police teams were also formed to trace and apprehend the absconding father. The investigation aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the events leading up to the tragedy and ensure legal accountability. The dual involvement of the minor sons in the alleged assault raises further questions about the dynamics within the family and the potential pressures contributing to such extreme acts.
The murders have sent shockwaves through Pipraghat village, with residents expressing disbelief at the brutality of the crime. Police presence has been increased in the area to maintain law and order. The district administration is monitoring the situation closely, and efforts are underway to provide support to the affected community while ensuring a thorough investigation into the matter. The legal proceedings are expected to follow standard protocols for murder cases, with particular attention to the involvement of minors as alleged accomplices. The ongoing investigation will seek to establish the sequence of events, the extent of involvement of each accused, and the underlying motivations driving this tragic incident. The recovered weapons, identified as sticks and wooden rods, have been seized as evidence.
