Facebook, Instagram Face Widespread Outage; Users Report Access Issues Across India and Other Countries

Users across several regions reported difficulties using Meta-owned social media platforms Facebook and Instagram on Friday, as complaints about outages surged online and on service-tracking platforms.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, reports of the disruption began increasing sharply around 7 pm IST. Outage-monitoring platform Downdetector recorded a significant spike in user complaints, with many reporting that the applications were not loading properly, feeds were failing to refresh, and some platform features had become inaccessible.

The outage did not appear to be limited to a single country or region. Users from multiple countries reported experiencing similar issues at roughly the same time, suggesting a broader disruption affecting Meta’s services. In India, users from several cities also reported difficulties while accessing Facebook and Instagram, with many turning to other platforms to confirm whether the services were down.

Data from outage-tracking services indicated a sharp rise in complaints during the period of disruption. Such platforms collect reports submitted by users and provide real-time information on service interruptions, although the number of reports may not represent the total number of affected users.

As of publication, Meta had not publicly announced the cause of the issue. Reports from international media indicated that the company was aware of the disruptions affecting its social media platforms, while users continued to experience intermittent problems.

Facebook and Instagram are among the most widely used social media platforms globally, with millions of users relying on them daily for communication, content sharing, and business activities. Any widespread disruption often results in a rapid increase in outage reports and online discussions as users seek confirmation about the status of the services.

The situation remained under observation, and further updates were expected as Meta and monitoring services assessed the extent of the disruption.
