Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district have claimed to have dismantled an online drug supply network and seized 2,000 capsules of an intoxicating substance. The operation is part of a broader campaign against drug abuse and the illegal trafficking of pharmaceutical intoxicants in the region.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that police received specific intelligence regarding the illicit procurement and distribution of Pregabalin-IP 300 mg capsules through online channels and courier services. In response to this input, authorities initiated surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations to validate the information and identify individuals involved in the network.
Acting on the gathered intelligence, law enforcement apprehended a suspect identified as Sarmad Ali Khan, a resident of Khanpura Phagsoo and currently residing in Nai Basti Thathri. The arrest occurred shortly after Khan collected a suspicious parcel from a courier centre. Upon examination, the parcel was found to contain 2,000 pregabalin capsules, organized into 200 strips, each containing 10 capsules.
Pregabalin, while a legitimate prescription medication used for certain medical conditions, is frequently misused as an intoxicating substance. The seized consignment was immediately confiscated, and a case was registered against the accused under the relevant sections of law. The arrested individual was subsequently presented before the Executive Magistrate First Class (EMFC) in Thathri, who ordered his judicial custody for six days at District Jail Bhaderwah.
This operation has exposed a clandestine online drug supply channel and effectively prevented a significant quantity of pharmaceutical intoxicants from entering circulation within the district. Police investigations are ongoing to identify the original source of the supply, trace financial transactions associated with the network, and establish the involvement of any other members of the syndicate.
Authorities are conducting further searches to apprehend other alleged accused individuals and to uncover the complete network, encompassing both upstream suppliers and downstream distributors. The efforts are part of a sustained push to curb drug trafficking and mitigate its impact on the community.
