SRINAGAR: IAS officer Pallavi Mishra, who previously served in Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed as the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Amritsar, Punjab. The transfer was approved on marriage grounds under the IAS Cadre Rules, 1954.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Mishra, a 2023-batch officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) cadre, was transferred to the Punjab cadre following her marriage to Aaditya Sharma, a fellow 2023-batch IAS officer from the Punjab cadre. This inter-cadre transfer, facilitated by the Central Government, aligns with provisions for All India Services officers and was formally effected in April 2026.
In her new capacity as ADC (General) in Amritsar, Mishra is expected to manage a wide array of administrative and developmental responsibilities within the key district of Punjab. Prior to this assignment, she held the position of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Marh, a region within Jammu and Kashmir. During her earlier tenure in the AGMUT cadre, she also served as an Assistant Collector in Goa.
Pallavi Mishra gained national recognition after achieving the All India Rank of 73 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022, marking a significant accomplishment on her second attempt. A law graduate from the National Law University, Delhi, she pursued Law as her optional subject during the examination.
The inter-cadre transfer policy for IAS officers is designed to allow officers to serve in cadres different from their initial allotment, often based on personal circumstances such as marriage to an officer of another cadre. This policy aims to balance administrative requirements with the personal lives of civil servants.
The AGMUT cadre, which Mishra belonged to, encompasses a vast geographical area including Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and various Union Territories of India. Officers in this cadre often experience diverse administrative challenges due to the varied nature of the regions they serve.
Amritsar, her new posting, is a historically and culturally significant district in Punjab, known for its economic importance and administrative functions. As ADC (General), Mishra will play a crucial role in the district’s governance, contributing to local development initiatives and public service delivery.
