Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: The Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, convened a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar to meticulously assess and bolster arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting, held at the Conference Hall of PCR Kashmir, saw the participation of several senior police officials, including Special DGP Coordination S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP Armed J&K, ADGP CID, Inspector Generals of Police from various wings including PHQ Hqrs, Kashmir Zone, Jammu Zone, Railways, Traffic, and CID J&K. Also present were all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIsG) of Kashmir and Jammu Zones, along with DIsG from IRP Kashmir, CID Kashmir, Traffic Kashmir, Armed Jammu, Armed Kashmir, Security J&K, and Railways J&K. Numerous Senior Superintendents of Police (SSsP) from districts across J&K, along with other senior officers, also attended the critical deliberations.
During the review of overall security preparedness, the DGP issued directives to officers emphasizing the maintenance of a high state of readiness and ensuring seamless coordination across all operational levels. He stressed the imperative of maintaining heightened vigilance across all identified sensitive and vulnerable locations. The DGP also called for enhanced surveillance measures, the regular execution of area domination exercises, intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASO’s), and continuous patrolling duties along the Yatra routes, railway tracks, vulnerable pockets, and prominent tourist destinations.
Furthermore, the DGP instructed that daily anti-sabotage checks be conducted along the Yatra routes and that all major arterial roads remain under continuous security surveillance. To bolster emergency response capabilities, the DGP ordered the strategic deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at key locations to provide immediate assistance whenever required.
The Director General also emphasized the importance of wide public awareness campaigns to inform the general populace and pilgrims about critical aspects such as cut-off timings. He further directed that regular inspections of security arrangements and other facilities established for the Yatra pilgrims be conducted to ensure their effectiveness and adequacy.
Highlighting the role of technology in modern security operations, the DGP underscored the need for the optimum utilization of advanced security technologies and surveillance systems, including comprehensive CCTV networks. These measures are intended to enhance security coverage at all important Yatra locations, transit camps, base camps, and along the pilgrimage routes. He also directed the effective utilization of RFID-based tracking and monitoring systems to strengthen security mechanisms and improve emergency response capabilities for pilgrims and authorized Yatra vehicles.
The DGP also instructed officers to maintain a close watch on individuals identified as militant associates and other anti-national elements. He stressed the importance of ensuring adequate security deployments in hinterland areas and other vulnerable locations, while also underscoring the need to safeguard all sensitive installations and vulnerable areas connected with the Yatra.
District SSsP were instructed by the DGP to maintain close coordination with the civil administration to ensure the effective implementation of security and logistical arrangements. He further directed officers to ensure efficient personnel deployment along the National Highway and other critical locations to facilitate the safe and secure movement of pilgrims and tourists. The DGP also emphasized the necessity of regular coordination meetings and comprehensive contingency planning, particularly concerning disaster management, emergency response, fire incidents, adverse weather conditions, and other unforeseen situations.
In addition to the Amarnath Yatra preparations, the DGP also reviewed security arrangements for the upcoming Muharram observances and the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani. He directed officers to finalize security measures, ensure effective crowd management, and maintain close coordination with all concerned agencies to facilitate the peaceful and smooth conduct of these significant events.
