SRINAGAR: Police in the Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have initiated a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following a complaint detailing the alleged sexual assault of a minor child.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Awantipora Police Station registered FIR No. 143/2026 under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act after receiving the complaint. An investigation into the matter has been launched.
Authorities stated that the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Pulwama was promptly informed as per established procedures. A police team subsequently facilitated the medical examination of the child, ensuring all necessary legal and procedural formalities were completed. Medical evidence has been collected and secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
The individual accused in the incident has been identified by the police. However, further details have been deliberately withheld by the authorities due to the sensitive nature of the case and to safeguard the privacy of the minor victim.
Police confirmed that the investigation is continuing, with all facets of the alleged incident under examination. The Awantipora Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of children within the region.
