The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations concerning donations and financial management of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The move follows a request from the trust itself, which sought an impartial inquiry to address what it termed as misinformation aimed at tarnishing the image of the Ram temple.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee, welcomed the state government’s decision to form the SIT, describing it as a significant and prompt action.
Mishra, speaking to reporters at the Faizabad Circuit House, stated, “Formation of the SIT shows government’s promptness and it is a significant action.” The SIT, formed on Saturday, comprises Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police Kiran S, and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan. The trust’s request for an inquiry highlights its commitment to transparency and addressing concerns surrounding its financial operations.
The establishment of the SIT aims to thoroughly examine the donation receipts and expenditure records of the trust, ensuring that all financial dealings are conducted with the utmost integrity. This step is expected to provide clarity and reinforce public confidence in the management of funds allocated for the construction and upkeep of the Ram temple.
Beyond the financial probe, Nripendra Mishra also provided an update on the ongoing construction work at the Ram temple complex. He detailed the progress on a four-kilometre boundary wall being erected around the complex, intended to enhance security measures. Concurrently, 25 watchtowers are under construction as part of strengthening the security infrastructure.
The responsibility for building the boundary wall and watchtowers has been assigned to Engineers India Limited. The targeted completion date for these security enhancements is August 2026, indicating a phased approach to the overall development and fortification of the temple premises.
Furthermore, Mishra announced that the facade lighting of the Ram temple is anticipated to be operational by August 15. This aesthetic enhancement is expected to illuminate the temple structure and contribute to its grandeur. In parallel, the script for 20 galleries of the proposed Ram Katha Sangrahalaya, a museum dedicated to the life and teachings of Lord Rama, has already been finalized. This signifies progress in the cultural and educational components of the temple complex development.
The comprehensive development plan for the Ram temple complex encompasses not only the main temple structure but also its surrounding security, aesthetic features, and associated cultural institutions. The formation of the SIT to address financial inquiries underscores a commitment to accountability, while the updates on construction signal steady progress towards the completion of various project phases.
The allegations of irregularities in donation funds had cast a shadow over the trust, prompting the need for an independent and impartial investigation. The Uttar Pradesh government’s swift response in forming the SIT and the trust’s proactive request for an inquiry are seen as crucial steps in safeguarding the sanctity and credibility of the Ram temple project. The SIT’s findings are expected to bring transparency to the financial dealings and reaffirm the trust’s dedication to its mission.
The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was established by the central government following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ayodhya land dispute, with the mandate to oversee the construction and management of the Ram temple. Since its inception, the trust has been actively involved in fundraising and coordinating the complex construction process. The current developments highlight the importance of robust oversight mechanisms in large-scale public projects.
The focus on security enhancements, including the boundary wall and watchtowers, reflects the significant importance attached to the safety and security of the temple complex, which is expected to draw a large number of devotees and visitors. The phased completion of these projects aims to integrate them seamlessly into the overall master plan of the temple and its associated facilities.
The Ram Katha Sangrahalaya is intended to serve as an educational and cultural hub, offering insights into the epic Ramayana and its significance. The finalization of the scripts for its galleries marks a significant milestone in developing this aspect of the project, promising to enrich the visitor experience with historical and spiritual narratives.
