Kangan, June 15: Rescue teams on Monday recovered the second body from the power canal in the Gund area of Kangan, Ganderbal district. The recovery followed the earlier retrieval of a female’s body from the same canal earlier in the day, concluding a search operation for two individuals who had reportedly drowned.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the incident occurred in the power canal near Gund, where two individuals were reported to have drowned. This prompted a significant search and rescue operation involving the police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local volunteers. After hours of extensive searching along the canal and adjoining areas, the body of a female was recovered. Subsequently, search teams continued their efforts and located the body of a male at a distance downstream. Both deceased individuals have been identified as residents of the Ramwari area of Gund.
The local police station in Gund has initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bhutanese National Civil Code (BNSS). The bodies have been transferred to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for medico-legal formalities. Further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning incident are currently underway.
