LUDHIANA, PUNJAB – Police in Ludhiana have registered a case following an attempted heist at a Bank of Baroda ATM near Pratap Chowk. Masked individuals attempted to loot cash from the machine using cutting tools late at night, but their efforts were unsuccessful, authorities confirmed.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the incident, which has raised concerns about bank security, occurred on the intervening night of June 12 and 13. The thieves reportedly used sophisticated tools to breach the ATM kiosk and tamper with the machine in a bid to steal its contents.
The Division Number 6 police have registered a case against unknown accused based on a complaint lodged by Neelam Rani, the senior manager of the bank branch. In her statement, Rani detailed how the perpetrators, after the bank’s closure, broke into the ATM kiosk situated outside the main branch building. She further stated that the security lock was compromised, and significant efforts were made to access the cash stored within the machine.
The incident came to light on the morning of June 13, causing considerable alarm among bank officials. The scale of the attempted theft and the use of specialized tools suggest a degree of planning by the perpetrators.
In response, the Ludhiana police have launched an investigation and are actively reviewing footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at the bank premises and in the surrounding areas. The objective is to identify the suspects involved in the audacious attempt. The police are hoping that surveillance footage will provide crucial leads to apprehend those responsible and prevent future incidents.
The incident is reminiscent of similar attempts that have been reported in the region previously, highlighting an ongoing challenge for financial institutions in safeguarding their automated teller machines from criminal elements. Bank security protocols and the effectiveness of surveillance systems are now under scrutiny following this latest breach attempt.
Authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the specific types of tools used by the thieves or the potential value of cash that may have been targeted. The investigation is ongoing, with police appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the masked individuals.
