A 56-year-old woman has died after allegedly being attacked with bricks by her daughter-in-law following a domestic dispute in Mukhliana village, Hoshiarpur district, Punjab. The police have arrested the accused and registered a murder case.

The deceased has been identified as Nirmal Kaur, wife of Bhagwan Singh. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening when an argument escalated between Nirmal Kaur and her daughter-in-law, Parmjot Kaur, at their residence. According to preliminary reports, Parmjot Kaur allegedly lost her temper during the altercation and struck her mother-in-law on the head with bricks, causing fatal injuries.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the motive behind the fatal assault stemmed from a disagreement between the two women over an unspecified issue. The violence that ensued tragically led to Nirmal Kaur’s death at the scene.

The husband of the accused, Harpreet Singh, who is the son of the deceased, is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Hoshiarpur for an undisclosed ailment. This detail emerged as police investigated the incident.

The gravity of the situation was brought to the attention of law enforcement authorities after local villagers alerted the police by dialling the emergency helpline 112. Upon receiving the report, the police swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate their investigation and manage the situation.

Following the initial on-site assessment, the body of Nirmal Kaur was transported to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination. After the completion of the medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to her family members for the final rites.

The Punjab Police have formally arrested Parmjot Kaur, the daughter-in-law, and have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to murder. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities aiming to establish the precise sequence of events and the exact nature of the dispute that led to the fatal confrontation.

Hoshiarpur district, located in the Doaba region of Punjab, is primarily an agricultural area. Incidents of violent crime, particularly domestic disputes escalating to such extreme levels, are a cause for concern for local residents and authorities alike. The police are expected to conduct thorough interrogations and gather further evidence to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the case.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the critical need for effective conflict resolution within households and the importance of addressing domestic tensions before they reach a breaking point.
