MANGALAGIRI, Andhra Pradesh – A significant infrastructure development project for the Guntur district received a formal start on Wednesday with the laying of the foundation stone for a railway overbridge (ROB) at Nidamarru. The project, estimated to cost ₹142 crore, is poised to significantly improve connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in the Mangalagiri region.

Foundation Stone Laid for Nidamarru Railway Overbridge

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and Information Technology, Nara Lokesh, and Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, jointly performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the ROB. The bridge will be constructed at railway level crossing gate No. 14, located on the Mangalagiri-Nidamarru road within the Namburu-Mangalagiri railway section. This development is a long-awaited one for commuters travelling between Mangalagiri, Amaravati, and Tadikonda, promising to reduce travel times and enhance road safety.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the project is a crucial step towards bolstering infrastructure in the rapidly developing capital region. The new overbridge aims to resolve persistent traffic bottlenecks at the existing level crossing, which has been a source of significant delays and inconvenience for thousands of daily commuters, including students and professionals. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve regional connectivity and support the economic growth of the Guntur district.

Project Details and Expected Impact

The Nidamarru railway overbridge project, initially proposed by Minister Nara Lokesh and actively pursued by Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar at the central government level, has received approval and funding for its construction. While some reports indicated a project cost of approximately ₹129.18 crore, with full funding from the Central Government, the foundation stone ceremony cited a cost of ₹142 crore. The project is expected to be a multi-lane structure, designed to handle future traffic demands effectively. It will provide a vital link between the Guntur-Vijayawada National Highway and the Amaravati Secretariat, offering an alternative route to the currently congested Tulluru-Mangalagiri Road and the Krishna River embankment road.

The construction of this overbridge is anticipated to have a transformative impact on daily commutes, reducing travel time considerably and improving the overall efficiency of transportation in the area. It is also expected to enhance road safety by eliminating the risks associated with railway level crossings, ensuring smoother transit for both road users and railway operations. Furthermore, the improved connectivity is likely to stimulate local commerce and provide better access to educational institutions and commercial centers in and around Mangalagiri.

Broader Infrastructure Development in Andhra Pradesh

This project forms part of a larger vision for infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh, with a particular focus on enhancing connectivity to the state capital, Amaravati. The Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, has been instrumental in securing several infrastructure projects, with this ROB marking a significant addition to his efforts. The development is also in line with the Central government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure across the country, facilitating economic progress and ensuring a better quality of life for citizens.

The ceremony saw the participation of various government officials and local representatives, underscoring the collaborative effort between state and central agencies to bring this project to fruition. The successful commencement of the Nidamarru ROB project signifies a positive step forward in addressing critical infrastructure needs in the region, promising improved mobility and economic benefits for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
