SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a five-day forecast predicting a prolonged spell of unsettled weather across Jammu and Kashmir, with warnings of isolated hailstorms, flash floods, and mudslides. Intermittent rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are anticipated throughout the Union Territory.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the weather department anticipates partly to generally cloudy conditions on Wednesday, with a possibility of light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in many areas, particularly during the afternoon. This is expected to persist from June 18 to June 22, with potential for light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
Looking ahead, the forecast suggests partly to generally cloudy weather from June 23 to June 25, with chances of light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds occurring at a few places. The prolonged period of variable weather conditions necessitates preparedness for potential natural hazards.
In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department, residents have been cautioned about the potential for intense showers to trigger flash floods and mudslides in vulnerable regions. The possibility of isolated hailstorms, accompanied by brief but heavy showers, has also been highlighted as a risk over the next five days.
The department has strongly advised individuals to exercise caution and avoid areas with loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires, and old trees during periods of adverse weather. For those involved in agriculture, particularly orchardists, the advisory recommends conducting spray operations during the early morning hours to mitigate potential losses due to the unpredictable weather patterns.
Officials have stated that while thundershowers are generally expected to be short-lived, they could be accompanied by strong winds and hail in isolated locations. This forecast underscores the need for vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines issued by the meteorological department to ensure public safety and minimize damage.
