Two Dead in Pahalgam Road Accident

SRINAGAR: Two individuals lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a road accident in the Aru area of Pahalgam in Anantnag district on Wednesday. The accident occurred when a vehicle bearing registration number JK03C-6737 skidded off the road near Gudkhoom on the Aru-Pahalgam route, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near the Lidder River. The impact of the crash proved fatal for two occupants who died on the spot. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the identities of the deceased were being ascertained. One of the deceased has been identified as Imran Ahmad Ganie, who was reportedly driving the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were residents of Pethbugh, Dialgam in Anantnag district.

Rescue teams, including police and emergency services, rushed to the scene to launch rescue and evacuation operations. Search operations were underway to ascertain if there were additional occupants in the vehicle. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution while travelling on hilly roads, particularly in areas with sharp turns and difficult terrain. The exact number of injured persons and their conditions are still being verified. Further details are awaited as rescue and search operations continue in the area.
