In an effort to mitigate the discomfort faced by parents and guardians during the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, the Delhi government has announced the establishment of 97 dedicated ‘cooling zones’ outside examination centres across the national capital. The re-test is scheduled for Sunday, June 21.
Comprehensive Support for Parents
These cooling zones are designed to provide essential amenities and a respite from the summer heat for family members accompanying the NEET aspirants. Facilities will include adequate seating arrangements, clean drinking water, shikanji (lemonade), oral rehydration solution (ORS), tea, and basic first-aid services. This initiative reflects a broader effort by the government to ensure a stress-free environment for candidates and their families on a day of significant importance.
The Delhi government has also arranged for free travel for NEET candidates on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses. To avail of this service, students will need to present their valid admit cards. This measure aims to alleviate transportation-related difficulties and ensure that examinees can reach their designated centres without additional worry.
NEET Re-test Context
The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination is being conducted following the cancellation of the original medical entrance test held on May 3, which was marred by allegations of question paper leaks. The decision to re-conduct the exam has brought back a period of intense preparation and anxiety for students and their families, who had already invested significant time and resources.
Several states, including Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Odisha, have also announced measures to support NEET candidates, such as free or subsidised travel. The Uttar Pradesh government has offered a 50% concession on state Road Transport Corporation bus fares and directed authorities to make temporary accommodation available for candidates travelling to other districts.
The Delhi government’s proactive measures extend beyond just the examination day. The city government already operates 85 cooling zones across Delhi, equipped with coolers and other facilities to help citizens cope with high temperatures. This established infrastructure is being leveraged to support the NEET re-test arrangements.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has conveyed her best wishes to all the aspirants, encouraging them to approach the examination with confidence and dedication. The government’s stated aim is to create a supportive ecosystem that allows students to focus on performing their best in one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations.
