Jammu and Kashmir: Undertrial Prisoner Dies in Anantnag Hospital After Reporting Illness

SRINAGAR, June 20: An undertrial inmate lodged at the district Jail in Anantnag died at a hospital on Saturday after he complained of severe illness, officials stated.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deceased has been identified as Suneel Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar’s Gandhi Camp. Kumar was an accused in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. He reportedly began complaining of illness during the night.

Following his complaint, jail authorities promptly facilitated his transfer to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag for immediate medical attention. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Kumar passed away at the hospital.

Authorities have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to inquiries into unnatural deaths. Further details surrounding the circumstances of his death and the nature of his illness are awaited as investigations continue.
