SRINAGAR, June 21: Senior police officials conducted a thorough on-foot security assessment of the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route and the Bhawan area in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to bolster the safety of devotees.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the review encompassed the entire yatra track, extending to the Sanjichhat area, where the security of the helipad and its surroundings was also audited to ensure safe helicopter operations.
The assessment was led by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Reasi, Mukund Tibrewal, who was accompanied by a team of officers, including the Superintendent of Police, Katra, Kameshwar Puri, and representatives from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The group meticulously examined the existing security infrastructure and operational protocols along the popular pilgrimage path.
During the inspection, the SSP closely scrutinised various entry points to the shrine complex. He evaluated the effectiveness of current pilgrim screening and frisking procedures, as well as the operational readiness of baggage-scanning systems. The deployment and alertness of security personnel stationed at critical points along the yatra track were also reviewed to ensure optimal vigilance.
Tibrewal also turned his attention to the living conditions and welfare of the security personnel. He inspected the accommodation facilities provided to the jawans deployed both at the Bhawan and along the yatra route. Interacting with the personnel, he gathered feedback on their living standards and addressed any welfare concerns, underscoring the importance of their well-being in maintaining effective security.
In light of the anticipated surge in pilgrim numbers during the ongoing summer vacation period, the SSP urged all deployed security personnel to maintain the highest level of vigilance. He emphasised the critical need for regular and effective patrolling along the yatra route, particularly during non-peak hours, to serve as a strong deterrent against any potential threats posed by anti-national elements.
The officer further stressed the significance of constant vigilance, seamless coordination among all collaborating agencies, and the necessity of undertaking regular security audits. These measures, he noted, are crucial for effectively addressing evolving security challenges and ensuring a safe and secure environment for the millions of devotees who undertake the pilgrimage to the revered shrine annually.
