SRINAGAR: Extensive security and administrative arrangements have been finalized across the Kashmir Valley to ensure the smooth, fair, and transparent conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate re-examination scheduled for Sunday, June 21. The re-examination, necessitated by the cancellation of the original May 3 test due to alleged paper leak irregularities, has prompted authorities to implement multi-layered security protocols and logistical support.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that classes have been suspended in 60 designated schools across six districts of Kashmir, including Srinagar and Anantnag, on Saturday, June 20. This measure aims to facilitate the necessary preparations and arrangements for the examination. The Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, issued an order for the suspension of classwork, warning that deviation from these instructions would result in strict action.

Comprehensive Security and Logistical Arrangements

Authorities have made significant security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir for the NEET-UG re-test. In the Jammu district alone, 27 examination centres have been established, with preparations adhering strictly to the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) standard operating procedures. These arrangements include substantial police deployment, rigorous security checks, candidate frisking, and traffic management, with route diversions also in place. Special teams will be deployed at each centre to ensure smooth entry and exit for candidates.

The NTA has committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in the medical admission process. To ensure a secure examination environment, mock drills were conducted nationwide on June 20 to test security systems, CCTV surveillance, biometric verification, and jammer functionality. Over 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras and 51,000 jammers are reportedly deployed across examination centres nationwide. Live feeds from CCTV cameras are being monitored at national, state, and ministry levels, with AI-based tools to detect anomalies.

Decentralized Examination Centres and Candidate Guidelines

To minimize long-distance travel for candidates, examination centres have been established across multiple districts in Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kathua, Kupwara, Pulwama, Samba, and Udhampur. District administrations have reviewed surveillance setups and strong rooms, emphasizing mandatory CCTV and videography protocols as per NTA guidelines.

Candidates are advised to strictly adhere to the reporting times specified on their admit cards. They must carry their NEET Admit Card, a valid photo ID, and passport-size photographs. Compliance with NTA dress code guidelines is also mandatory. Entry gates will close precisely at 1:30 PM, and no candidate will be permitted entry thereafter. For students eligible for compensatory time under the PwD/PwBD category, the examination duration extends until 6:20 PM.

The NEET UG re-examination is being conducted after the original test on May 3 was annulled following allegations of question paper leaks and examination irregularities. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the matter. The Union Education Minister has chaired several high-level meetings to assess preparedness, and access to Telegram has been temporarily restricted by authorities as a measure to curb cheating networks.
